Honda Civic Honored as “Top Overall Ethnic Vehicle” by National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers and IHS Markit

Honda was honored by the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers (NAMAD) with four Diversity Volume Leadership Awards, including Top Overall Ethnic Vehicle for the Honda Civic, America’s retail best-selling car in 2018 and in each of the past three years. The ceremony was held in Detroit, on the eve of the 2019 North American International Auto Show.

The 2018 Honda Civic was awarded the Top Overall Ethnic Vehicle by NAMAD and IHS Markit, as well as top ethnic vehicle in the West region, and as the overall volume leader with Hispanic buyers. The 2018 Honda Pilot also was recognized as a volume growth leader among Asian Pacific Islanders. In addition, the Honda Grom won for Top Ethnic Sport Bike.

“Honda is incredibly honored to accept these awards,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., Senior Vice President, Automobile Division, American Honda. “Civic winning the top overall award speaks to the continued importance of passenger cars in the marketplace and especially with the powerful and growing multicultural customer segment.”

The NAMAD awards recognize top-performing automotive brands that are driving sales with multicultural consumers. Awards were presented to brands whose vehicles had the highest number of new-vehicle registrations among African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, and LGBT based on market data from IHS Markit.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Electronic Power Steering Recall: 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V

  • 54 vehicles will be recalled in the United States to replace the electronic power steering gear box, for free
  • No related crashes or injuries have been reported

American Honda will voluntarily recall 54 model year 2017-2018 Honda Civic and Honda CR-V vehicles in the United States to replace the electronic power steering (EPS) gear box, free of charge. Torque sensors within the affected gear boxes were manufactured incorrectly and could provide incorrect steering torque information if the steering wheel is turned fully to the end of its range of travel (multiple turns in one direction). This condition could cause the EPS to steer with more force than intended by the driver, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as possible for the free repair. Mailed notification to owners of affected vehicles will occur in early-November 2018. Owners of these models can also determine if their vehicles require repair now by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Rear Camera Noncompliance Recall: 2018 Honda Accord and 2019 Honda Insight

  • Approximately 232,000 vehicles will be recalled in the United States to update the software that controls the rear camera display, for free
  • No related crashes or injuries have been reported

American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 232,000 model year 2018 Honda Accord vehicles and model year 2019 Honda Insight vehicles in the United States to update the software that controls the rear camera display, free of charge. Due to incorrect software programming, the center screen that normally displays the rearview image may not provide the image during backing events following certain usage scenarios, even after the vehicle is restarted. A failure to display the rearview image does not comply with federal requirements (FMVSS 111, Rear visibility) and could increase the risk of a crash.

Honda Accord, Civic and CR-V Earn 2018 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards

Honda’s three top-selling models have received 2018 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards. The 2018 Accord, Civic and CR-V topped their respective product categories in projected residual value after five years of ownership. A higher residual value can reduce the long-term cost of ownership and put money back in the owner’s pocket when it comes time to sell or trade-in a vehicle.

“Buying a new car is a huge financial decision, and our 2018 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards are designed to help shoppers discover the brands and vehicles that can help them get the most out of their investment,” said Avi Steinlauf, Edmunds’ CEO. “This year’s winners underscore a commitment to quality and reliability, and are good bets to hold their value over the course of ownership.”

The 2018 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards are designed to highlight overall ownership value to shoppers, beyond just the initial purchase price, by indicating the highest projected residual value after five years.
